Requirements and Application Process:
Attorneys seeking to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia must be an active member in good standing with the Georgia State Bar. All attorneys seeking admissions are required to have a sponsoring attorney who is currently admitted to the Georgia State Bar and the Bar of the Southern District of Georgia. The Southern District of Georgia has three divisional locations (Savannah, Brunswick, Augusta) for attorney admissions to the bar. Please contact one of the admission offices listed below to initiate the admission process. The attorney admission offices will provide instructions for admission and future scheduling of the Judges swearing in ceremonies. Once the petition (click here for Attorney Form) is signed by the judicial officer conducting the admission ceremony, the fees (Click here for listing of court fees) are paid, and the attorney roll book is signed, an attorney is eligible to practice in the Southern District of Georgia.. The Clerk’s Office will mail a certificate of admission to practice within two weeks.

Mr. Ballew will then contact you upon the next ceremony scheduled in the Savannah division.
Brunswick
Please do not send or mail your attorney admission petition to the Brunswick Clerk’s Office. For attorney admissions in the Brunswick division, please call Brunswick attorney Theresa Davis Beaton at (912) 265-6700. Ms. Beaton will notify the attorney when the next swearing in ceremony is scheduled in the Brunswick division.
